Notre-Dame de Paris (French: [nɔtʁə dam də paʁi]; meaning "Our Lady of Paris"), also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, and is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. The naturalism of its sculptures and stained glass are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture.
As the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris, Notre-Dame contains the cathedra of the Archbishop of Paris, currently Cardinal André Vingt-Trois. The cathedral treasury contains a reliquary which houses some of Catholicisms most important relics, including the purported Crown of Thorns, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails.
In the 1790s, Notre-Dame suffered desecration in the radical phase of the French Revolution when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. An extensive restoration supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc began in 1845. A project of further restoration and maintenance began in 1991.

The Notre-Dame de Paris was among the first buildings in the world to use the flying buttress. The building was not originally designed to include the flying buttresses around the choir and nave but after the construction began, the thinner walls grew ever higher and stress fractures began to occur as the walls pushed outward.

Absolutely stunning! Very cool history, and is worth the wait. Wasn't able to get tickets to the bell tower, but if you like that kind of thing it sounded like everyone was happy. We went right around

Beautiful place with far more spirituality than the Vatican which is completely commercialized. Inside this cathedral, you will see people lighting candles at various stations, and respect given in th

The Cathedral itself is free to enter and gorgeous. The lines can be long ish in the summer, but in the off season no more than 10-15 minutes. The audio tour was quite good (5 Euro) and I'd suggest it

This cathedral is so impressive and I'm not a fan of gothic architecture. The outside has such spectacular detail, I spent more time visiting the outside than the inside. Inside it is dark and mystic,

The church is worth seeing just for the size on it's own. The cathedral blew me away with it's height and altogether architecture. It's an iconic sight to behold with your own eyes. The inside has man

It looks really beautiful, but it's not too different from any other Gothic church. If you only go to one church in Paris, this is definitely the one you should go to. The church is free, but there's
